Disposable Soft Contact Lenses by  Johnson & Johnson (Vistakon)

Acuvue Oasys with Hydraclear Plus are the most widely prescribed and most popular contact lenses on the market today!  Acuvue Oasys lenses are manufactured using a new material that is exclusive and not found in other brands.  This new technology produces an exceptionally comfortable lens with high oxygen transmission to keep eyes healthy and to extend comfortable wearing time throughout the day.  Acuvue Oasys are two-week disposable soft lenses and are packaged six lenses per box.

Advantages of Acuvue Oasys

High Oxygen Transmission Helps to Keep Eyes Healthy

Contact lenses that do not transmit enough oxygen are not healthy for the cornea.  When low oxygen transmission lenses are worn all day they can cause corneal swelling and eye redness to name just a few problems.  Silicone has been added to Acuvue Oasys lenses to create a porous material so more oxygen can pass through the lenses to keep eyes healthy.  Silicone hydrogel lenses transmit up to 500% more oxygen than other types of soft lenses.  However, the addition of silicone often creates a stiffer, less comfortable contact lens.  Acuvue has solved that problem by its exclusive, patented Hydraclear Plus technology which combines the silicone polymer with an extremely moisture rich wetting agent which keeps the lenses moist, soft and smooth without any coatings necessary.

UV Protection

Acuvue Oasys lenses have received a seal of approval from the American Optometric Association for being class 1 UV-blockers.  The standards are set by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and the International Standards Organization (ISO).  In order to be considered a class 1 UV-blocker, the contact lenses must block 90% of UVA rays and 99% of UVB rays.  UV exposure increases the chances of developing eye problems in the future such as cataracts and age-related macular degeneration.  Acuvue Oasys soft contact lenses provide extra protection but should always be used in conjunction with UV blocking sunglasses in order to provide complete protection.

Replacement schedule

Acuvue Oasys are two week disposables which is an advantage over monthly disposables for people who have dry eyes and allergies.  If you suffer from either of those problems, it is best to dispose of your contacts more frequently in order to prevent deposits from building up on the lens surface and causing eye irritation.

Acuvue Oasys are Highly Recommended

The contact lens experts at Master Eye Associates highly recommend Acuvue Oasys brand lenses.  Our doctors have experience prescribing virtually every brand of contact lens and modality in the world.

The combination of high oxygen transmission, moist lens surface, soft and flexible material, clear optics and excellent patient satisfaction make the Acuvue Oasys lenses possibly the all around best lens in the world.

Possible Disadvantages of Acuvue Oasys

Extended Wear for up to Six Nights

Acuvue Oasys are approved for extended/continuous wear for 6 nights/7 days so they must be thrown out after a week if you are sleeping with them.  This requires you to purchase 16 boxes for the year instead of the usual eight boxes.  If you desire to sleep in contacts for longer than six nights, Acuvue Oasys are not right for you.  There are other soft disposable lenses that are FDA approved for continuous wear up to 30 days

Important information for contact lens wearers: ACUVUE® Brand Contact Lenses are available by prescription only for vision correction.  An eye care professional will determine whether contact lenses are right for you. Although rare, serious eye problems can develop while wearing contact lenses. To help avoid these problems, follow the wear and replacement schedule and the lens care instructions provided by your doctor. Do not wear lenses if you have an eye infection, or experience eye discomfort, excessive tearing, vision changes, redness or other eye problems.  If one of these conditions occurs, contact your eye doctor immediately.

*HYDRACLEAR® is the brand name of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc. for its proprietary technology that brings together a remarkable moisture-rich wetting agent with high-performance base materials to form clear, wettable lenses resulting in a unique, silky, soft feel.

**HYDRACLEAR® Plus is the brand name of Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc. for the next generation of its proprietary technology that allows a higher volume of a moisture-rich wetting agent in a new, state-of-the-art formulation.  This creates a more wettable, ultra smooth contact lens, especially for challenging environments that can make eyes feel dry.

‡***WARNING: UV-absorbing contact lenses are NOT substitutes for protective UV-absorbing eyewear such as UV-absorbing goggles or sunglasses because they do not completely cover the eye and surrounding area. You should continue to use UV-absorbing eyewear as directed. NOTE: Long-term exposure to UV radiation is one of the risk factors associated with cataracts. Exposure is based on a number of factors, such as environmental conditions (altitude, geography and cloud cover) and personal factors (extent and nature of outdoor activities). UV-Blocking contact lenses help provide protection against harmful UV radiation. However, clinical studies have not been done to demonstrate that wearing UV-Blocking contact lenses reduces the risk of developing cataracts and other eye disorders. Consult your Eye Care Practitioner for more information.
