Glenn Beck's Eyes - Macular Corneal Dystrophy

Glenn Beck recently announced he may be going blind from macular dystrophy.  That would be more accurately stated as macular corneal dystrophy and should not be confused with macular degeneration.  Macular corneal dystrophy is an uncommon disorder of the cornea of the eye and macular degeneration is unfortunately a fairly common condition of the central retina inside the eye.

Extended Wear Contacts | Air Optix Night & Day Soft Lenses

Air Optix Night and Day Aqua 30 day continuous wear soft contact lenses are now even better The Air Optix Night and Day Aqua soft contact lenses have replaced Focus Night and Day lenses which were discontinued on March 16, 2009.  The primary benefit to patients that use the "new and improved" Air Optix Night & Day Aqua lenses is that they offer better comfort than the predecessor lenses (Focus Night & Day).  In fact patients preferred the new AirOptix Night & Day two to one over the Focus Night & Day.  The comfort improvement is a result of a change in the design of the lens and the way it interacts with the cornea.  The angle of interaction has been changed to make the contact lens more comfortable and to improve the ability for the lens to stay moist and not dry out on the eye.  The net result is quicker adaptation and better comfort while wearing the new Air Optix Night & Day Aqua.  The proprietary lens material also minimizes the rate of dehydration of the lens on the eye and the ultra smooth surface of the lens helps to reduce deposits on the lens and maintain better comfort.

Epidemic Keratoconjunctivitis Bob Costas' Eye Infection Severe Pink Eye

Bob Costas’ Eye Infection

Epidemic Keratoconjunctivitis (EKC) is a Serious Eye Infection that Should be Treated by an Experienced Eye Doctor Anyone that watched the NBC Sochi Olympics coverage during the first few days could only have empathy for Bob Costas as he battled a severe eye infection. His swollen, red, watery eye continued to get worse and also spread to his other eye. It finally forced him to be completely replaced and taken off the air forcing NBC to scramble for a replacement. It is my opinion that Bob Costas had epidemic keratoconjunctivitis (EKC). Since I did not have the privilege of examining him personally, I can only make that diagnosis from watching him on television and hearing his complaints about his eyes on air. If my diagnosis is incorrect, please accept my apology. However, it is worth learning about the condition so you can avoid the complications.

What is Pink Eye? How do You Get Pink Eye? Pink eye is actually a non-medical term that is commonly used to describe the medical condition called conjunctivitis.  Some actually define pink eye as a certain type of conjunctivitis, such as an acute epidemic type of bacterial conjunctivitis; however, most eye doctors would probably assume any reference to pink eye as one of the various types of conjunctivitis.
