CooperVision (NYSE: COO) recently announced that its Biofinity brand of soft contact lenses is the fastest growing contact lens brand in the U.S. The number of new patients wearing Biofinity lenses grew faster than any other frequent replacement contact lens brand in the past 12 months with its toric (for astigmatism) lenses leading the monthly toric category. Although the lenses are not FDA approved for 30 days of continuous lens wear, they are approved for seven days and six nights of extended wear.
It appears that more and more eye doctors are discovering the benefits of these superior lenses. Because of the patented exclusive Aquaform® technology used in Biofinity lenses they offer excellent comfort and cornea eye health for wearers of Biofinity. The high oxygen transmission material is a naturally wettable material and also resists the build-up of deposits on lenses.
A recent test by a competing brand of contact lenses also showed that Biofinity lenses provide the highest degree of lubricity of any monthly or two-week disposable lens. Lubricity is the measure of the reduced friction created by a lubricant. Higher lubricity means less friction and a slippery surface. It is also now known that lubricity is a very important feature related to the comfort of a contact lens. Another study showed Biofinity was preferred over the leading toric soft lens.
Biofinity lenses are available for patients with myopia (nearsightedness), hyperopia (farsightedness), astigmatism and presbyopia (age related loss of near vision).
CooperVision, a unit of The Cooper Companies, Inc. (NYSE: COO), is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of soft contact lenses.
